Tsuru no ongaeshi/ The grateful Crane
One night a quiet knock was heard at the door as they were about to go bed. When they went to it there was a girl in a kimono. It was strange to find a girl in such cold weather but then she asked nicely if she could stay for the night. They said yes. To repay them she said why don’t I weave for you. But there is one thing that you could please do that is don’t come in while I am weaving. Late one night they heard a lot of unusual noises so they opened the door. What they saw was strange because she was weaving herself as a crane. Moments later the old man set the girl free.
