Matariki Explanation writing

Matariki is a signal of the Maori New Year, it’s the renewal and the celebration in New Zealand. This symbol’s the seven sisters or known as the pleiades.

Matariki is a star cluster which appears in the night sky in mid winter. Also Matariki is not known as a constellation it’s known as a star cluster. There are over 500 stars that are in space, the stars looks like they are close together, but actually they are far apart when you are in space. There are only 6 or 7 stars that are visible for us to see from Earth. They are Tawhirimatea, Tupu-a-rangi, Waipuna-a-rangi, Waiti, Tupu-a-nuku, ururangi, and waita.

The relative teenage stars were born together in a nebula at about the same time. Nebula is a cloud of dust in space, some other nebulae are where stars are being born. The young teenage stars is blue, they are much gigantic than our Earth sun. Blue stars are the hottest, yellow are medium hot and red are cooler.

The foggy white that is surrounded around the seven stars can be seen with a telescope. The hazy light that is connected to the stars together is the nebula. Matariki is not on the same day every year, Matariki is usually celebrated some years. It’s because from our perspective Matariki is behind the sun.

Around the whole entire world matariki is name after plenty of culture. The Greek name is the Pleiades, in Japan it’s called Subaru and in china it it Mao. The Maori use the stars and the moon for calendar, each phase of the moon signal the Maori to do their favourite thing, example planting and fishing.

Matariki Ball Dance (Fun)

Tonight was a really fun night, the reason why it was fun because we had a Matariki ball. The Matariki ball started at 5:30 but some people and kids came a bit later. The Matariki ball was very awesome because I was dancing with my friend and family. As I was dancing I just went outside to play around with my friend. We boys was going very hard on dancing, Mrs Tofa said “There is going to be a competition for the best Junior, Queen and King and the Senior, Queen and king”, I wanted to just dance because I didn’t focus more on the competition because I just wanted to have a blast with my friend. I was dancing and dancing but it was coming to the end of the Matariki Ball, so Mrs Tofa announced the winner for the Queen & King best dancers (I don’t know the winners). But it was fun with my friends because we just get to dance and just eat food together.

Our class is doing the 7 stars about Matariki and we can choose any stars but it has heaps of meaning about the 7 stars. So this is what I've done on google drawing about the Matariki Star. So the meaning behind of the Matariki star is about reflection, hope our connection to the environment and the gathering of people. So this is what I have done on google drawing.

At the (Matariki light)!!!

Last week on Saturday my cousin, mum, nana and I we all went to the Matariki lights. We went there for the last night for the matariki lights trial for this year. When we all arrived at the light trial we all entered the matariki lights and it was so fascinating, because there was so many beautiful lights everywhere .

We all walked upon the light trial and we sawed this performance that was happening. We saw a (Cook Island) group just drumming well the dancer was performing. I was trying to spot Trent on the stage but couldn't spot him because there was so many people., my cousins were so happy to see the lights , they don't live around glen innes so it was a good opportunity to see the beautiful lights, it was so amazing and fun.
