The Declaration is like a contract, it’s an agreement between the Maori Chiefs and the King of England. The Ngapuhi chiefs asked for formal protection from King George IV. The Maori Chiefs wanted to be an Independent country cause the French and Americans were trying to take over some parts of New Zealand. James Busby, Henry Williams and William Colenso drafted this Declaration and bought together a treaty with the Maori Chiefs. Tuesday 10 March 2020
