SMLJ Activity 2 - Bonus Activity - Day 1 - 2017

Activity 2: Setting Sail
The first settlers to come to New Zealand must have been really brave! They had to leave their original homes and sail thousands of miles across the ocean on a special boat called a ‘waka’ to reach New Zealand.

Imagine that you were on board one of the wakas. On your blog, write a short letter to a friend telling them about your voyage to New Zealand. In the letter be sure to tell them how you feel about moving to a new country. If it was me, I would have felt really nervous…

Good Ayy people, I’m very happy that I’ve migrated from my country to this wonderful country you have. I’m very shy to be here because I don’t know if this is the same as my own country that I was living in, I cannot wait to see the stunning areas around this country.

Bonus Activity: Waka Ama
To this day, the people of New Zealand still use waka. Instead of using their waka to transport them from one place to another, they sometimes use waka in special events and in sporting competitions such as Waka Ama. Both boys and girls compete in Waka Ama boat races.

waka-ama-40461.jpg
Watch this short video of a Waka Ama race. On your blog tell us whether you would like to be in a Waka Ama race one day. Why or why not?

I would definitely be in the Waka Ama because I could inspire one another to be in the Waka Ama and I can be showing the world my skills that I’ve got. Also It’s a good workout and I world participate in the Waka Ama one day,
BONUS POINTS: 10

SMLJ Activity 1 - Day 1 2017

It is widely believed that the first people to arrive in New Zealand came from Polynesia. Most historians believe that they landed in New Zealand over 700 years ago. Although they were originally from many different countries, these settlers learned to live together and, eventually, formed their own distinct culture known as ‘Māori.’  Māori have their own language, traditions, and culture.

Follow this link to read a short story about a famous man in Māori mythology – Maui. On your blog, post three facts that you learned about this interesting man. What other stories have you heard about Maui?

I’ve read a short story that was based on Maui. Here are 3 facts that I’ve learnt about Maui.

  1. Maui always wanted to go Fishing with a his brothers
  2. Maui caught a giant fish
  3. Maui is the best fisherman

Mrs Tuner *Refelecting*

For the middle block today room 7 had a wonderful lady by the name of “Mrs Turner”,that came in and teach us something new.

She showed us a word which is called “Neuroplasticity”, Neuron is in your brain, us human beans have 80 billion - 100 billion of neuron in our brains cell, plastic is the same thing as plastic bags. When you scrunch up the plastic bag it will form into different shapes. The final word is city, compare city to town, city is bigger comparing it to town. As we were talking about Neuroplasticity we watched a little video before doing some fun stuff with the play dough. As we finish watching the video we had to make a neuron out of play-doh, we could use different shapes and different colour play-doh. After when all of us finish making the play-doh neuro we putted all of our playdoh on the floor to make a neuron brain cell. As we were coming to the end we were all please of what Mrs Turner done for us.

I’m very stunned of what I’ve learnt today and learning something a bit more new that what we always focus on.

My Nana Birthday!! *Celebration time*

On Friday it was my Nana Birthday, for her Birthday we went out for lunch at Hansan. She was turning 52 and she is so happy and relief that it is her Birthday.

We had a wonderful lunch and I wanted some more but I was to full to eat some more, as we were eating my nana was enjoying her Birthday lunch and she was still having a wonderful munch. I was hearing the stove flaming and it was so nice to hear, that was amazing. I liked chatting with my family across the table next to me and as we are standing up having a walk around we can have a conversation.

As we were eating I just enjoyed hearing my family having a good time, I was eating my dessert and the flavour was so incredible that it was a wonderful dessert. I was getting a full than I was before, but at least I was having a relaxing time with my family especially my nana because I love her so so much that she is the bestest nana in the world. As we were leaving, we ended up getting some fruits which will calm down my stomach for getting a stomach ache.

So after we came back from having lunch with my uncle we went and baked a cake for my nana so she can blow it out because she didn’t blow out her candle before we left for dinner. We blowed out the candle in my nana beed

But at least Friday was a exciting and I had fun with my nana on her special day with my family and my relatives.I love her so much.

Wedding day!!

Yesterday was a very emotional, happy and fun day, the reason why is because my uncle had a Wedding. My uncle was dress so handsome and his wife name “Athena”, was looking to pretty in her white dress.

The Ceremony was going so good, Athena family was there with my uncle family. As the ceremony was going on for 30 minutes we had to go to Northcote which is a couple kilometre away from where we had the ceremony. As we got there we got all of our homemade food from the car and took it up to the table, I was assuming some more people to come but we had plenty of people with us.

Before we had dinner Athena had an emotional time inside of the building because we sawed a video of Athena dad and his family side saying “We hope you have a wonderful wedding Athena and as well as you Mark (My Uncle)”, As I was hearing this I was so happy not because Athena dad not here with us but it because Athena get to listen to the dad and other family member that talking all the way from France.

So we done heaps of thing with the family on the wedding day. As the day was coming to the end we dance on the floor while the DJ was playing some amazing remix music. I enjoyed myself yesterday at the Wedding because I get to see some of my family members which I’ve haven't seen in awhile.

Special place in our community (Writing)

As you can see I had to chose a special place in our community, I’ve explained what I’ve chosen, why I chosen it and how come I go to that special place. I’ve putted a lot of effort into doing this.

After we’ve finished doing our writing we’ve had to get a partner to check our work and highlight a word or sentences as well as add a comment so our partner can identify why this word it highlighted. When our partner finish fixing up their work they had to swap netbooks so they can give our writing a score by using rubrics. So my score was 40 and that is 5A.

I hope you will enjoy reading my writing and also leave a comment on this blogpost about anything that you think will need more fixing up on this writing.

The reason why I’ve chosen the Basketball courts because I always go there to play with my friends and just have a blast. There is another reason why I’ve chosen the Basketball courts is because I get to practice some new skills before I verse my friends on a Basketball sessions.

The Basketball courts is very close to my house, as I walk to the Basketball courts I find it easier to walk because it’s not really that far. I like to go there because I get to practice alone instead of anyone bordering me. The people in the community come and play at the same Basketball court as where I’m playing at, the worst thing is that I don’t like it some people come and hog the Basketball court to themself, it’s like they are the owner of the Basketball Court.

After school If I have time to play outside I will make my way to the Basketball Court so I get practice. The name of the area where the Basketball court is “Fernwood”, as everyone come and bond at the Basketball court is very fun and amazing. I get to play with more people instead of having to get sweaty and still play with the same person over and over again.

The Basketball court is very important to the people around the community because it has a very expensive hoop and they might get stolen by a robber. It is very valuable to the neighbours around the Basketball Court  because they are like bodyguards and they can play on the Basketball court whenever they want.

My Career (Basketball)

Image result for basketballMy Career is based on shooting balls in the hoop and having to cooperate with each other, it’s a type of sport where you team up and of cause it’s “Basketball”. Basketball is a wonderful sport where a head coach coaches the team so they can be a successful player when they play.

The person that inspired me to play Basketball is “Julian Newman”, he shows that he can play very well as well as a good trainer. Julian Newman started playing Basketball when he was 3 years old, he is only 16 years old and he is so incredible in his career, he plays for the Varsity Basketball team at Downey High School in Orlando Florida. He has 1 sibling name “Jaden Newman”.

He is a very good professional Basketball player and he is trying to make his way into any of the NBA team, he is trying to confront that he is good in front of LaMelo Ball. LaMelo and Julian is trying to have a game against each other before they both go into the NBA.

My Career is going to be good for me in the future because I can earn heaps of money and the world will see my talent and skills.

How to make a fire? (Presentation)

Today our School had a inquiry presentation, me and Stephen worked on making this presentation that is based on "How to make a fire", the reason why we've chosen "How to make a fire", for our presentation is because we can recap what we've learnt from camp and shared it around to the people that is reading this. So one person from each group had to present what they have created as part of their presentation. Me and Stephen have been putting a lot of effort into finishing this off for the School before we showed it to them. I hope you enjoy watching a fantastic presentation.

Healthy Diet

What happens when the body does not receive a healthy diet?

When some people eat junk food they can get a bit addicted to eating too much unhealthy food, but here is the problem. If people doesn’t eat healthy they may develop “Digestive problems”, the reason why they get digestive problems it’s because your system has no fruits and vegetables.

There is heaps of people around the world that has an addiction to eating junk food, some of those people are dying from what they are eating wrong, some people may require allergic reactions to vegetable and fruits, if they know they are allergic to vegetable and fruits they shouldn’t be eating heaps of junk food because they might become a junkie and that will affect their health issues.
Screenshot 2017-09-11 at 15.55.41.png
Just say “No” to junk foods if you are eating too much unhealthy foods.

Eating veggies and fruits can help reduce risk of many diseases especially heart diseases, high blood pressures and some cancers. Veggies helps people for their diets because it will make them a bit more skinny before they do their fitness or daily.

Niva Retimanu (Duffy Assembly)

On Monday morning we had Duffy Assembly, there was a wonderful lady that came and she is a really good Duffy role model. Niva Retimanu has a radio station called “Radio Industry”, her radio station is Auckland’s popular Radio station. Niva was born in Invercargill New Zealand.

She use to work in a Radio Station in Samoa, the 48 year old loves to talk and …. Talk. according to her friends, family and colleagues she never stop talking, But they’re all suprise that she chosen a career of “Always talking”. Apart of Niva choosing radio station she does a Marathon Run, before Niva ran a marathon she was sitting in front of the TV and her stomach was covering her eyes when she was on the couch, so sometime later she started running and she lost a lot of weight.

At the Duffy Assembly Niva said “When she was little she never know how to read”, but when she was at the radio station in Samoa she was getting use to reading and her life changed.

When she told us her life she went off and Mrs Raj escorted her to the office.

Stone Store Kemp House (Keri Keri Experience) #Camp

On 22 August 2017, Glenbrae year 7&8 students had a very wonderful opportunity to learn a lot of the history behind the Stone Store and Kemp House in Kerikeri.
The Mission House now known as the Kemp House is the oldest surviving house in New Zealand, the Kemp House was completed in 1822. The owner of the Kemp house was the Missionary family- Including James and Chantell Kemp.

As we stand on the Kemp House property it felt like I was looking at a house which I never knew existed. Their was our tour guide waiting for us so she can show us around the Kemp House. Before we headed off inside the house she told us some facts about the Nga Puhi chief Hone Heke and Hongi Hika.

So our tour guide let us in the House and as I was experiencing the House it was so unique looking at the furniture and looking at a wonderful place. Our tour guide was talking about James and Chantell Kemp in the Kemp House. I was very fascinated to hear our tour guide saying that the Kemp House has been standing since 1822 and that’s almost 200 years.

We went off when our tour guide said so and I was so scared because there was only 5 people to go on the 2nd story due to unstable on the 2nd story. There was heaps of old furnitures in that house and when we came to the kitchen we heard that James Kemp made the kitchen for his wife “Chantelle Kemp”, James knew that Chantelle like cooking for her family.

After we finish exploring the house we said “Our thank you”, to our tour guide and we headed off to the Stone Store. We went upstairs because we get to explore the histories about the Maori’s and the flags, as we were experiencing such a wonderful place we went up to the attic and explore more things that was part of the history of New Zealand. After some time looking at the Stone Store we headed of to a place which was a good experience but I won’t be telling you but I will tell you on my next blog.
