Facts about Russell Island
Russell Island in Redland city is the biggest Southern Moreton Bay Islands, Russell was found in 1870, in 2011 the population for Russell Island use to be 2,473 (I’m not sure what’s the population of Russell for 2017?), Russell is located in the far north of New Zealand.
Russell use to be known as Kororareka, was the first permanent European settlement and seaport in New Zealand, much of the accommodation was in the area and consist on holiday homes or tourist accommodation.
Present day (Russell Island)
In this very day Russell is now mostly a “Bastion of Cafes, gift shops and B&B’s” (Bed and breakfast), a car ferry across Bay of Islands going between Okiato and Opua and also to access the main tourist to Russell Island.
There is a school in Russell called “Russell School”, Russell School is a co educational (Co educational is a school where full primary school from Year 1-8. Russell School has been opened since 1892.
Shopping
In Russell there is a small shopping village offering a variety service, there is a post office, chemist, bakery, and a single takeaway food shop in the small island. Russell Island have the same service as the main land than span across the island.
