WLJ 2017-Day 1: 100% pure NZ

Well, the time has now come! School’s out for the holidays and your tour of New Zealand is about to begin. I hope that you are ready and excited! Curious Kiwi certainly is – he can’t wait to start the Great Kiwi Road Trip! Before you all hit the road, let’s take a minute to review some key facts about New Zealand.3.jpg

Activity 1:  Go to the Tourism New Zealand website and click on the ‘Facts - New Zealand People’ tab. Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts must be written in your own words. Do not simply copy and paste the facts from the website☺.

3 interesting facts

  1. Many of these invention has been created in a backyard. Frozen meat, Hamilton Jet boat and the bungy jump is New Zealand's most famous Kiwi invention, and many others.

  1. For the same reason people come and visit New Zealand is because people from New Zealand has developed a passion for the outdoors and some fun activities that makes the most of the spectacular landscape.

  1. Rugby Football is the most popular sport in New Zealand, with the All blacks playing Rugby and winning 80% of the Rugby World Cup is really making NZ wanna play Rugby. Rugby is a popular sport in New Zealand.

Activity 2: Your tour of New Zealand is going to start right here in Auckland. Watch the Tourist video for Auckland to learn about the awesome things that you can see and do in the city. Once you’ve finished, choose your favourite five activities from the video and list them on your blog.
5 of my favourite activities in the video
  1. Firstly, “Mt Eden” mountain is so cool because you can see the beautiful view and especially the Museum because in the night the Museum turns into a colour of paradise.

  1. The Elliott Stables is a wonderful coffee shop, I never been there before but it’s sound so yum I just wanna go and try out their coffee and while I’m at it I will ask one of the workers “If there is any cookies”.

  1. The seafood across on Devenport sounds nice and it will taste nice to be honest.

  1. The Museum is so interesting, having dinosaur bones, Maori things and more sound so amazing. Just looking at the video and looking at the new things they’ve putted in the Museum sounds like I want to go back to the Museum.

  1. Last of all is the “Sky Tower”, the reason why I putted the Sky Tower last because they have a nice view from a top of the Sky Tower, you can see people bungee jumping of the Sky Tower and you can just explore around it.

Bonus Activity: Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!

Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.
For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing programme that you wish. I would recommend the Flag Designer website. It allows you to create a flag in three easy steps. When you are done, take a screenshot of your flag and post it on your blog. Here is an example:

To earn full points you must describe the flag, in words, below the picture. Please tell us what is on the flag and what inspired your design.
My flag that I created.

So I created myself a flag which looks like this, it has a crown on it. It’s on their because it has a little meaning behind the crown, the meaning is “It’s rules New Zealand and it’s shows people some love”, I added green because of the land and the land was firstly made out of grass so that why the green is there, and for the blue one is for the sky. It’s telling god to “Keep our land safe and keep New Zealand safe too. So this is my flag.

  1. Kia ora Danny!

Welcome back to the holiday blogging programme. I am so happy that you are back blogging with us this year. I am also so happy to see that you have already completed a number of activities - way to go!!

For this activity I was really impressed by the flag that you created and by the descriptions that you provided for the second activity. I really hope that you are able to get to Elliott Stables one day for a cup of coffee and a cookie. I also hope that you're able to venture up Mt Eden and look back over the city. The view from the top of the volcano is pretty amazing, although I am always a bit nervous when I stand atop Mt Eden because I realise that it is a volcano that could erupt at any time...

Keep up the great work, Danny. You're plowing through the activities!

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)
