Day 3 - Buying a ticket
Now that you have chosen your country it is time to start planning your trip. One of the first things you will need to do is to buy an airplane ticket. There are many, many airlines that fly around the world. Some of the most common are:
Air Canada Air New Zealand
Emirates Air Asia
When you get onto the airplane you will be asked to watch a short safety video that tells you how to stay safe when flying in a plane. Arguably, the best airplane safety videos are produced by Air New Zealand.
Activity 1
Watch both of the current Air New Zealand safety videos. The first is a video that stars the All Blacks. The second is a video that stars Rhys Darby and Anna Faris (Hollywood actress). Links for the videos are found below:
Once you have finished watching the videos, go to your blog and list three things that you need to do to stay safe on an airplane.
- Loose items that you’ve bought on board should be secured and safely
- Make sure to buckle yourself in seat belt before flight take off
- No smoking on board because passengers near you with bad health will inhale smoke.
Activity 2
Imagine that you have been asked to create your very own airline. What would you call it? Design a simple logo for your airline and post it on your blog. You must include a short explanation of your logo below the picture.
I named my airline Wes Virgin airline because it make sense and I love the name Wes Virgin, Wes Virgin is in USA so I just chosen a random name. I found a ship and a plane on images in it just look beautiful upon my eyes.
Bonus Activity - Airplane tickets can be very expensive. The table below lists the cost of one return ticket for one person from Auckland, New Zealand to the capital city of each country included in the Summer Learning Journey programme. The costs are listed in the local currency (money) of the country and not in New Zealand dollars.

Hi Danny!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the Summer Learning Journey for 2017. It's great to have you back :)
I like to see that you have completed all three activities for Day #3. You've converted each of the airline ticket prices accurately and come up with a really good answer for the bonus activity. Well done!
You have also created a very interesting logo. Initially, the name 'Wes Virgin' reminded me of an airline named 'Virgin Atlantic' that was started by a business man named Richard Branson. Richard owns the record label ' Virgin Records' and, as of January 2016, has a net worth of 5.2 billion dollars. Wow!
For your logo, I see that you've drawn your inspiration from a state in the southern region of the U.S.A. called West Virginia. I love that you have drawn inspiration for your logo from another country!
I hope that you will continue with the Summer Learning Journey by packing your suitcase (Day #4 activities) and jumping on the plane (Day #5 activities).
Cheers!
Rachel :)
Hi Danny!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good blog. I can see you've spent the time to really work through everything properly. I agree with Rachel that it is excellent to see when students complete all the activities including the bonus.
Keep up the excellent work!
Mark
Kia ora Danny,
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with the learning you have done through the Summer learning journey. Knowing how to convert currency is a great skill. I wonder how the cost of travel to Samoa compares to Australia?
Mrs Krausse
