WLJ- Day 4: Swimming with the sharks.

Day #4: Swimming with the Sharks
By the end of Day #3, you have seen a lot of the north island of New Zealand.  Hopefully you have enjoyed it and you’re excited for the next phase of your journey – the ferry trip across the Cook Strait from the bottom of the north island to the top of the south island. You will spend the next two days exploring the south island before you head back up to Auckland, via Wellington (the capital city of New Zealand).

Activity 1: When you arrive in the south island, Curious Kiwi rents a shuttle van and drives your group from Picton (the town where the ferry dropped you off) to a beautiful beach on the opposite side of the island. The beach area is called Golden Bay and, at one end of the bay, is a stunning area called Farewell Spit.

Farewell Spit has been in the news recently as a number of whales accidentally swam into the spit and became stuck on the beach. They were unable to swim back to the ocean because the water was too shallow. Many local people tried to save the ‘beached’ whales. Please follow this Farewell Spit link to learn more about what happened. On your blog, describe what the local people did to try and save the beached whales.
Freedom Camper offer their towels, t-shirts and sarongs to drape on the whales. They all grabbed their chilly bins, water bottles, cook pots and bowl so they can fill it up with water and pour it on the whales so it can still be alive. The volunteers stayed to help until pitch black (Night) and hoping to leave the whales on shore so the high tie can come and wash them away, the coming morning the whales went back to the ocean and all the volunteer can see is sand. The whales was gone and the volunteer  thanked the people that help to keep the whales alive and safe during the night.

Activity 2: After a morning of learning about beached whales in Golden Bay, you and your group are driven to a nearby town, Nelson, to watch a special movie called ‘Whale rider.’ It is a famous movie about a young girl who was born and raised in New Zealand. Watch the following movie trailers for Whale Rider: Whale Rider trailer #1 and Whale Rider Trailer #2 and then write a summary of the movie on your blog. What is it about? Be sure to also give the movie a rating out of 5 based on the trailer [1 = bad movie, 2 = okay movie, 3 = pretty good, 4 = good movie, 5 = excellent movie].
This short video I’ve watched is about a little girl challenging herself so she can become a Whale Rider. She wanted to be like the other chief back in the days, she wanted to become like the boys because she knows that the boy’s Maori tradition things is a bit harder than the Girls powhiri and such more. So she putted herself a little challenge, she asked the dad “Can you teach me”, and the dad said “Yes”.
When the days went past she was starting to be able to have the strength and ability. One day she went to the beach and she found a whale stranded upon the shore just laying there, her and the family was so worried about the whale just lying there on the shore. She started to pray and sang, she was praying for the whale to be still alive. She ended up climbing on top of the whale and started to rub the whale, she waited and hoping the whale is still ok, after 12 seconds the whale was moving. It took her along the ocean and under the water.
To be continued……..

This movie is so awesome I will rated out (5) [Excellent movie]

When ‘Whale Rider’ finishes, you and your tour group enjoy a delicious meal in downtown Nelson before heading back to your hotel. You need to go to bed early because you have to get up at 4:30 a.m. the next morning to travel back to Farewell Spit to see a group (pod) of Hector’s Dolphins. It is going to be an early morning!
Bonus Activity: Hector’s dolphins are a very special native animal found only in New Zealand. They are the smallest dolphin in the world measuring 1.5 metres long and they are quite rare. Sadly, many Hector’s dolphins are killed every year when they get caught in large fishing nets and can’t escape. Some people have argued that fishermen shouldn’t be allowed to fish in Farewell Spit in order to protect the dolphins living there. What do you think? On your blog, tell us whether you think that fishing in Farewell Spit should be banned (stopped).
Yes fishing should be banned in Farewell Spit because it’s just too much stress for other public members, to prevent this from not happening is to try and put up signs around Farewell Spit to warn fishermen to not fish near Farewell Spit, several deaths to the dolphin from fishermen should be fine.
If they just killed it and leave it dead in the water may cause the water to not be safe for other swimmers because the blood from the Hector Dolphins may be very poisonous. So leave the Hector Dolphins alone because it’s just like human beans but they are living in the water.

WLJ- Day 3 Wild Eyes

Day #3: Wild Eyes
You have now woken up after a long, comfortable sleep at your hotel in Dargaville. You’re ready for another day of adventuring! Today, you will drive around the North island and be introduced to amazing animals that live here in New Zealand. Some are native and some are non-native. Native animals are animals that normally live in New Zealand. Non-native animals are animals that were brought into New Zealand from another country. Examples of native New Zealand animals are the kakapo, the kiwi, the kea parrot, the yellow eyed penguin and the pekapeka bat.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\NZ Map - Schematic.png

http://www.kiwidaydreaming.com/p/new-zealand-maps.html
Activity 1: Curious Kiwi, a native New Zealand bird, is your tour guide for today. He is going to take you to visit the Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park where many of his aunties and uncles currently live. The bird park is a five hour drive from Dargaville so you hit the road right after breakfast and arrive in Otorohanga at lunch time. As you walk through the birdhouse you learn about the work being done to conserve and protect the native birds of New Zealand. You decide to help out by ‘adopting’ a native animal. Visit the ‘Adopt a Critter page’ on the Otorohanga bird house website to choose one animal to adopt. On your blog, tell us the name of the animal that you chose and a little bit about them. What kind of animal are they? What do they eat? Where do they normally live? You can use Google to help you with your research.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Otorohanga Spotted Kiwi.jpg
So the animal I chosen is a “Great Spotted Kiwi”. Great Spotted Kiwis lives in the south island of NZ, this Kiwi eats small invertebrates such as Earthworms and Larvae of Beetles and Cicadas. Also the Great Spotted Kiwi is member of the ratites, It’s flightless also.
Activity 2: After your great visit to the Otorohanga bird house it is time to hop back onto the bus and head towards the Hawke’s Bay – your resting place for the evening. Hawke’s Bay is a beautiful region of New Zealand. It is known for its wineries and gorgeous scenery. When you arrive in Napier, the largest city in the region, you go for a walk through Waitangi Regional Park and notice that many of the leaves on the native trees have been damaged. Curious Kiwi tells you that they were damaged by possums, non-native predators, from Australia. People in New Zealand are working hard to trap and kill these predators. Their goal is to remove all of the possums (and other predators) by 2050. Go to the ‘Predator Free 2050 website’ to read more about their work.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Possum pic.jpg
On your blog, tell us whether you agree that New Zealand should be predator free. In your opinion, is it right to kill all of the predators (eg. possums) or should we just leave them alone? On your blog tell us what you think and give us, at least, three reasons why you think this way.
  1. My opinion is to leave the Possum alone because they need to have a life just like human beans and they should just be free even though they trying to kill possums by 2050 they still should leave them alone for there rights.

  1. What happen if they have babies and they get killed before giving birth to their baby possum so why are they killing the possum is it because they want New Zealand to be native animal free or is it because they just ruined the native forest and killing other animals, so they should think twice.

  1. My final opinion is what the point of having possum’s in our land, just listen to this if they want to kill possum don’t because they are living animals and there are no right of killing the possum’s.
So this is all my 3 opinion and it’s talking about to leave the possum’s alone.

Once you have finished your blog post, it is time to relax for the evening. You and your friends have a nice dinner and then head to bed. You are just about to fall asleep when you hear something moving around outside your hotel. It sounds like a large bird. Maybe it’s a Moa…
To learn more about the Moa bird go to the bonus activity for today!
http://www.pottonandburton.co.nz/from-moa-to-dinosaurs/
Bonus Activity: A really cool new website called Wild Eyes has recently been launched in New Zealand. It is a programme for students who want to complete fun activities (called ‘missions’), take pictures and post them on the Wild Eyes site. For this bonus activity, go to the Wild Eyes site and complete the ‘Giant Moa Discovery’ mission. To earn full points you must post a picture of your Moa on the Wild Eyes website and on your personal blog site. The Wild Eyes team and I can’t wait to see what you create!

WLJ 2017- Day 2, NZ by Land and Sea

Day #2: New Zealand by Land and Sea
After a short ride through Auckland it is time to start exploring the rest of the country. Today you are going to venture around the north island of New Zealand to look at active volcanoes, gorgeous beaches, windswept coastline and lush, green bush. As a group, you will start at Rangitoto, the largest volcano in New Zealand before driving west to Karekare, a stunning beach on the outskirts of Auckland. You will finish the day by driving north to visit Tane Mahuta, the oldest living kauri tree in New Zealand.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Rangitoto island pic.jpgC:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Karekare beach.jpgC:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Tane Mahuta.jpg

Activity 1: After a very busy day of sightseeing you and your group drive from Tane Mahuta to your hotel in Dargaville. When you arrive you decide to sit down and record your thoughts in your travel diary.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\NZ Map - Schematic.png

http://www.kiwidaydreaming.com/p/new-zealand-maps.html
Before you start writing, take a minute to read more about Rangitoto island, Karekare beach and Tane Mahuta.  On your blog, tell us which of the three places you most enjoyed visiting and why.
Rangitoto Island summit walk is so cool because all I just wanna see is the view of Auckland. So when I make my way up the mountain all I can just see is the beautiful view of Auckland city.

I would just like to have a long walk on Rangitoto Island because I just wanna experience what would it be like living on the island and just wanting to see people having fun just like me.

Karekare waterfall sound so amazing I just wanna go on the waterfall and just enjoy the native forest and just hear the bird chirping along while I’m swimming.

Activity 2: As an island nation, New Zealand is completely surrounded by water. It is the perfect place for people who like to swim or to sail! While in Dargaville, recovering from your busy day of sightseeing, you notice a number sailboats going by. One of the boats is manned by a young German girl named Laura Dekker. At the age of fourteen she sailed around the world the entire world by herself. You can watch a short video clip about her adventures here: Laura Dekker sailing trip.
Let’s imagine that you had the chance to interview Laura while in Dargaville. On your blog post five questions that you would ask her.

  1. Who inspired you to sail
  2. What is your goal for sailing
  3. Who taught you to be a good young sailor
  4. What would you rather do beside from sailing
  5. Last of all, why did you choose sailing
Bonus Activity: When you finish your interview with Laura, you decide to keep on interviewing people. For this activity, your task is to conduct a real interview with an actual member of your family. Please ask them to think about their five (5) favourite things to do in the out-of-doors. They can be things that they enjoy doing on land or in the water. Post the list of outdoor activities on your blog.

WLJ 2017-Day 1: 100% pure NZ

Well, the time has now come! School’s out for the holidays and your tour of New Zealand is about to begin. I hope that you are ready and excited! Curious Kiwi certainly is – he can’t wait to start the Great Kiwi Road Trip! Before you all hit the road, let’s take a minute to review some key facts about New Zealand.3.jpg

Activity 1:  Go to the Tourism New Zealand website and click on the ‘Facts - New Zealand People’ tab. Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts must be written in your own words. Do not simply copy and paste the facts from the website☺.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\NZ Map - Schematic.png

3 interesting facts

  1. Many of these invention has been created in a backyard. Frozen meat, Hamilton Jet boat and the bungy jump is New Zealand's most famous Kiwi invention, and many others.

  1. For the same reason people come and visit New Zealand is because people from New Zealand has developed a passion for the outdoors and some fun activities that makes the most of the spectacular landscape.

  1. Rugby Football is the most popular sport in New Zealand, with the All blacks playing Rugby and winning 80% of the Rugby World Cup is really making NZ wanna play Rugby. Rugby is a popular sport in New Zealand.

Activity 2: Your tour of New Zealand is going to start right here in Auckland. Watch the Tourist video for Auckland to learn about the awesome things that you can see and do in the city. Once you’ve finished, choose your favourite five activities from the video and list them on your blog.
5 of my favourite activities in the video
  1. Firstly, “Mt Eden” mountain is so cool because you can see the beautiful view and especially the Museum because in the night the Museum turns into a colour of paradise.
Image result for museum and the sky tower
  1. The Elliott Stables is a wonderful coffee shop, I never been there before but it’s sound so yum I just wanna go and try out their coffee and while I’m at it I will ask one of the workers “If there is any cookies”.

  1. The seafood across on Devenport sounds nice and it will taste nice to be honest.

  1. The Museum is so interesting, having dinosaur bones, Maori things and more sound so amazing. Just looking at the video and looking at the new things they’ve putted in the Museum sounds like I want to go back to the Museum.

  1. Last of all is the “Sky Tower”, the reason why I putted the Sky Tower last because they have a nice view from a top of the Sky Tower, you can see people bungee jumping of the Sky Tower and you can just explore around it.
Image result for sky tower night view

Bonus Activity: Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!

H:\Blogging Study\WLJ 2017\New Zealand flag.png
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_New_Zealand#/media/File:Flag_of_New_Zealand.svg

Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.
For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing programme that you wish. I would recommend the Flag Designer website. It allows you to create a flag in three easy steps. When you are done, take a screenshot of your flag and post it on your blog. Here is an example:
Source: http://flag-designer.appspot.com
To earn full points you must describe the flag, in words, below the picture. Please tell us what is on the flag and what inspired your design.
My flag that I created.
Screenshot 2017-07-07 at 21.07.02.png
So I created myself a flag which looks like this, it has a crown on it. It’s on their because it has a little meaning behind the crown, the meaning is “It’s rules New Zealand and it’s shows people some love”, I added green because of the land and the land was firstly made out of grass so that why the green is there, and for the blue one is for the sky. It’s telling god to “Keep our land safe and keep New Zealand safe too. So this is my flag.

Last week maths! ➕➖✖➗

A car uses 10 litres of fuel to go 100 kilometres.
How many will it need for 450 kilometres?
So 10x10=100 KM
10x45=450
Answer: 45
Different kind of strategy 450/10=45

Hamish and his brother eat 2 pieces of toasts each for breakfast, and his sister eats 1. If hamish has had 8 pieces so far this week, how many have the three of them eaten altogether?
Answer : 24
3x8=24
So if it was 2x8=16

But it is 3x8 which equals 24

Josh, ani, and philip have enough food to last 9 people for 5 days.
How long should the food last the 3 friends?
So 9 people and 5 days with enough foods
So 9/3=3 & 3x5=15 Days

This is what we just solved out but their was more equation than this but we just solved out the one we knew and this is all we got. Me, Vainikolo and George have been working on a equation each and we gave it our best.
